On March 3, 2017 Judge Joseph Welty, Chair of the Supreme Court's Task Force on the Arizona Rules of Criminal Procedure, provided an overview of R-17-0002, with specific emphasis on Rule 31.14 (Provisions Applicable Only to Briefs in Capital Case Appeals) and Rule 39 (Victims' Rights) to the Commission on Victims in the Courts. Pertinent materials had previously been provided to COVIC members for review. Following discussion, motions to support the restyling efforts and approve the proposed changes to Rules 31.14 and 39 were made, seconded and passed unanimously by the body.
