The 16 judges of Division One of the Court of Appeals have agreed that July 16, 2014 will be the earliest date on which they may receive applications and begin interviewing prospective law clerks for the 2015-2016 clerkship year. Some of the judges expect to begin the hiring process on that date; other judges will wait to review applications until later in the year. Applicants should submit a cover letter, resume, transcript, writing sample and references to each judge with whom they intend to apply.
The Court of Appeals, Division One, has an open position in the Chambers of Judge Patricia K. Norris. The position will combine the duties of a law clerk with certain administrative responsibilities that will be shared with Judge Norris’s other two law clerks. The position will entail substantial substantive legal research, writing, and the preparation of court decisions under the direct guidance and supervision of Judge Norris. The applicant must have excellent legal research and writing skills as well as organizational and administrative skills. Prior experience working with or supervising personnel would be an asset. Prior experience with the Court of Appeals, either as an extern or law clerk, would also be an asset but is not required. Proficiency in Westlaw or Lexis, Windows 8.1, and Office 365 is required. The starting bi-weekly salary will be the equivalent of $53,386 annually. This salary is subject to an adjustment if the applicant has previously served as a first year law clerk with Division One for a full term. As a full-time employee, the applicant will be eligible for state benefits and will be required to participate in the Arizona State Retirement System when he or she has met eligibility requirements.
