As part of President Obama’s Winning the Future Initiative, Lillian O. Johnson has been selected as a “White House Champion of Change.”  Ms. Johnson has for many years been executive director of Community Legal Services, and she is being honored for her life-long dedication to closing the access to justice gap in America.  Ms. Johnson received her J.D. from the University of Chicago, and began her legal career as a staff attorney at the Legal Assistance Foundation in Chicago.  Her service in Arizona at Community Legal Services began nearly 30 years ago.  Community Legal Services, through its Volunteer Lawyers Program, is currently partnering with the Arizona Foundation for Legal Services & Education and the Appellate Section of the State Bar of Arizona in a pilot appellate  pro bono project here at Division One of the Court of Appeals.  Details concerning this program can be obtained here.
