Committee on Time Periods for Electronic Display of Superior Court Case Records

The Committee on Time Periods for Electronic Display of Superior Court Case Records was established by Arizona Supreme Court Administrative Order 2015-68 as part of the Arizona Supreme Court's strategic agenda, the Arizona Judicial Branch is digitizing court records to enhance public access to court services and improve efficiency of court operations.  Rule 123, Rules of the Supreme Court, as well as the records retention and destruction schedules in the Arizona Code of Judicial Administration (ACJA), related administrative orders, and various statutes govern the retention and management of case records throughout the Arizona Judicial Branch.  While a number of electronic records policies are in place, additional direction and clarification is needed to manage remote electronic access to superior court case records.

The Committee on Time Periods for Electronic Display of Superior Court Case Records has been established to examine and make recommendations on the following questions regarding superior court case records designated as Records Series #1-18 on the Superior Court Records Retention and Disposition Schedule (ACJA § 3-402):

  • Should superior court case records for which there is a permanent retention period be accessible through remote electronic access indefinitely or for a finite period of time?  If a finite period of time is deemed appropriate, what is the recommended duration period for each case type?
  • Should superior court case records for which there is not a permanent retention period be accessible through remote electronic access for the full duration of the retention period or a shorter period of time?  If a shorter period of time is deemed appropriate, what is the recommended duration period for each case type?
