Arizona’s Centennial Project
More than 500 middle and high school students and teachers were in attendance at Arizona’s “We the People” State Championship, hosted by Grand Canyon University, where Chief Justice Rebecca White Berch announced the Court’s Centennial “Gift to Arizona Students,” in honor of Arizona’s 100th birthday, February 14, 2012.
Alongside Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Roxanne Song Ong, Chief Justice Berch presented to Department of Education Director of Social Studies Standards John Balentine, an educational DVD that highlights U.S. and Arizona History.
“Civics education and a solid understanding of our democracy is a critical component to the future of our country. It is with this in mind that I am here today,” expressed Chief Justice Berch to the crowd.
The centennial project, commissioned by the Arizona Judicial Branch, is an educational DVD that will be distributed to every Arizona middle and high school. It will serve as a tool for civic and social studies teachers that will enhance and supplement the state’s current curriculum.
