    This petition proposes to amend several ethics rules ("ERs") in Supreme Court Rule 42 (Arizona Rules of Professional Conduct) to clarify the obligations of government lawyers. A proposed amendment to Supreme Court Rule 45 (Mandatory Continuing Legal Education) would also apply to government lawyers. The petition includes Appendices A, B, and C. A December 14, 2023, Task Force Report to the Arizona Judicial Council is filed concurrently with, and in support of, this rule petition.

    Would amend the preamble and eight Ethical Rules in Rules 42, Rules of the Supreme Court of Arizona, to clarify the ethical obligations of government lawyers and amend Rule 45 of the same rules to impose an additional CLE requirement on such lawyers.

    Comments must be submitted by no later than Wednesday, May 1, 2024, and any reply by a petitioner must be submitted no later than Monday, June 3, 2024.
