Certain cases filed in Arizona courts may be identified as having historical significance because of a special legal issue or controversy in the case, the relevance of one or more parties to the action, or because it is a notable or newsworthy case. . Pursuant to § 3-402 and § 4-302 , a motion to designate a case as historically significant must be filed either by a member of the citizenry or by the court upon its own motion. The motion must identify at least one reason why the case should be designated as historically significant.
