David D. Weinzweig

David D. Weinzweig was appointed to the Arizona Court of Appeals in December 2017.  He is an Arizona native.  He received his undergraduate education at the University of Arizona and legal education at Arizona State University. 

Judge Weinzweig has considerable experience in both private and public practice.  He spent most of his career as an associate and then partner at Lewis and Roca, where he represented corporate and government clients in commercial litigation.  Recognized in Best Lawyers in America, he specialized in antitrust law and chaired the firm’s antitrust practice group.  He also spent nearly seven years serving three Arizona Attorneys General, defending dozens of high-profile complex and constitutional lawsuits and appeals.  Prior to his appointment, he co-founded the law firm of Ellman Weinzweig, where he practiced constitutional and commercial litigation in trial and appellate courts.

Among his professional activities, Judge Weinzweig has authored and co-authored full chapters in leading national treatises on antitrust law, corporate in-house legal practices and consumer protection law.  He has served on rules and practice committees charged with shaping and reshaping the landscape of state and federal litigation, including the Arizona Supreme Court’s Civil Justice Reform Committee and the Local Rules of Practice Advisory Committee of the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona. Judge Weinzweig enjoys teaching his popular legal writing and persuasion course to attorneys and law students.

As an active community volunteer, Judge Weinzweig has served on local and national non-profit boards. He helped build and four times chaired a popular awards program to honor Arizona attorneys for community and public service.
