This site contains all of the opinions issued by the Arizona Judicial Ethics Advisory Committee from its inception in 1976 to the present. Over the years, the opinions have been published in various formats, most recently as part of the Judicial Conduct and Ethics Manual distributed to all judges throughout the state. The manual was discontinued in December 2002, and the committee began publishing its opinions exclusively on the web in 2003. In February 2004, the opinions were reformatted to make them easier to read. The revision included minor editing that did not affect the substance of the opinions.
The Arizona Supreme Court adopted a new Code of Judicial Conduct in 2009 that may invalidate certain opinions or references. Many sections of the new code are at least slightly different from sections in the previous version of the code. If you have any doubt or concern about the validity of an earlier opinion as applied to a current issue, please contact the Judicial Ethics Advisory Committee for advice about the matter.
The full text of an opinion can be accessed by selecting a year in the table below and then clicking the opinion number. Opinions can also be accessed by searching the list of opinions or the subject index and clicking the appropriate hyperlink or by using the "custom search" feature.
These opinions are advisory only and are based on the specific facts and questions submitted by the person or court requesting the opinion pursuant to Rule 82 of the Rules of the Supreme Court.
