  • In FY 2012, total case filings decreased by 10.2% from FY 2011.
     
  • Total case terminations decreased by 13.0% during the same period.
     
  • Civil case filings decreased 26.7% from 97,856 in FY 2011 to 71,722 in FY 2011. During the same period, civil case terminations also decreased 26.1% from 102,922 to 76,008.
     
  • Criminal case filings increased 2.1% from 51,066 in FY 2011 to 52,159 in FY 2012.  Criminal case terminations decreased by 4.3% during the same period from 54,372 to 52,018.
     
  • Domestic relations cases decreased 1.8% from 49,493 in FY 2011 to 48,594 in FY 2012, while domestic relations case terminations decreased 4.1% from 49,768 to 47,733.  Domestic violence petition filings increased 2.2% in Superior Court from 12,579 to 12,856 in FY 2012.
     
  • There were 210,786 total cases pending on June 30, 2012, compared with 210,965 cases pending on July 1, 2011, a decrease of 0.1%.
     
  • Juveniles with direct filings to adult court decreased 23.8%, from 340 in FY 2011 to 259 in FY 2012.  Juvenile cases transferred to adult court decreased 25.0%, from 24 in FY 2011 to 18 in FY 2012.  A total of 277 juvenile cases were either transferred or directly filed in adult court in FY 2012 compared to 364 in FY 2011, a decrease of 23.9%.
