Poverty Levels and Authorities
U.S. Poverty Guidelines are established each year in the Federal Register by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for administrative purposes. The poverty guidelines are a simplification of the "poverty thresholds," which are updated yearly by the Census Bureau for statistical purposes.

**For family units with more than 8 members, add $590 for each additional member at the 150% level, $688 at the 175%, $786 at the 200% level, and $884 at the 225% level.
