The new rule procedure for approval of local rules took effect on January 1, 2017. See Rule 28.1, Rules of the Supreme Court
This process requires the presiding judge to post the proposed changes on the website for that judge’s court for at least 30 days (presubmission comment period). Rule 28.1(d). Following that period, the presiding judge may submit a request for approval in this Court. That will usually require an additional comment period of 60 days. Following this comment period, the Court would consider the request for approval. All local rule amendments approved by the Supreme Court are posted on the website under “Recent Amendments,” and the full text of local rules, as with statewide rules, may be found under “Current Rules.”
