The retirement benefits for probation, surveillance and juvenile detention officers hired on or after July 1, 2018, changed due to pension reforms passed in 2017.
The intention of the reforms is to bring added sustainability and employer and taxpayer cost-savings to public pensions in Arizona.
These reforms did not impact current members and retirees of the Corrections Officer Retirement Plan, better known as CORP.
The Public Safety Personnel Retirement System, Plan Administrator and Fund Manager for CORP, created a web page to help employers and members familiarize themselves with the reforms.
The web page includes:
- Informational videos explaining the changes.
- Contribution codes and data requirements for processing payroll and contributions.
- A matrix that summarizes the different benefits among each employee tier.
- A brochure that explains the differences between the CORP pension and the 401(a) Defined Contribution plan
