Dependency Petitions Filed

A dependency petition is typically filed with the court requesting that, due to specific allegations of neglect and/or abuse, a child should be found dependent as to their parents. These petitions are frequently filed by the child welfare agency but can also be filed by a family member or an attorney representing the child in another matter. This report provides the number of dependency petitions filed with the court during a selected period of time and includes both out-of-home and in-home placement of children. This also includes petitions that were transferred between counties, reactivated, or filed as a supplemental petition.
