Dependency Judges Training

Judges are required to obtain and maintain professional competence through judicial education1. The AOC offers orientation and a variety of continuing education for judges with different bench assignments. Judges assigned to the dependency bench are required to complete an Initial Dependency Bench Training within 120 days of assuming the assignment2. They are also required to attend the Dependency 101 training within 12 months of assignment to the dependency bench. Dependency cases can be complex, involving numerous parties, professionals, and services necessary to promote the safety, permanency, and well-being of children in care.
