Petition R-24-0029 requests this Court to authorize the Fair Housing Initiatives Program (FHIP) employees to represent alleged victims of discrimination during the Arizona Attorney General’s Civil Rights Division of the fair housing investigations, mediations, and conciliations. Amending Rule 31.3(e) of the Arizona Supreme Court will allow Arizona FHIP employees, who possess specialized knowledge and training, and are subject to appropriate oversight, to assist Arizonans who may have experienced housing discrimination. This rule revision will open up access to justice for Arizonans who cannot afford private counsel by providing the opportunity to work with an experienced advocate who will assist them with complicated court processes and fair housing laws.
