    Would amend Rules of Criminal Procedure, Rules 14.4 (Proceedings at Arraignment) and 17.2 (Advising of Rights and Consequences of a Guilty or No Contest plea) to expand the scope of the notice of possible collateral consequences and to advise defendants at the inception of a criminal case of these collateral consequences.

    Would amend Rules 14.4 and 17.2 of the Rules of Criminal Procedure to expand the scope of the court’s notice to a defendant of possible collateral consequences and to advise defendants at the inception of a criminal case of these collateral consequences.

    Comments must be submitted by no later than Wednesday, May 1, 2024, and any reply by a petitioner must be submitted no later than Monday, June 3, 2024.

    This comment is filed on behalf of the Justice of the Peace Bench in Maricopa County. We take no position on the merits of the proposed rule changes. We unanimously request that, if adopted, the proposed language be modified slightly so that it clearly only applies to felonies.
