Recidivism |
Recidivism is a fundamental concept in criminal justice, referring to a person's return to criminal behavior after receiving rehabilitation and undergoing interventions for a previous offense. This report reflects individuals that exited probation during FY2018 and FY2020 and the number of those persons who were charged with a new offense and went through the Arizona Superior Court’s presentence process (or) case supervision by an Arizona Adult Probation Department during a three-year timeframe subsequent to their exit date.
Studies from FY2018 and FY2020 show consistent outcomes:
♦ FY2018 Cohort: 88.15% of probationers did not return with a new conviction within three years.
♦ FY2020 Cohort: 87.94% of probationers did not return with a new conviction within three years.
Overall, nearly 9 out of 10 individuals exiting probation in Arizona successfully reintegrated without a new conviction within three years.
