Clerk of the Arizona Supreme Court
| Welcome to the Arizona Supreme Court Clerk's Office |
|
The Arizona Constitution authorizes the Supreme Court to appoint a clerk of the court and assistants. Under Arizona Revised Statutes § 12-202, the clerk attends sessions of the court; issues paperwork; enters court orders, judgments, and decrees; keeps other records; and performs other duties as required by law or the court. These other duties include documenting disciplinary actions against attorneys and judges, finalizing the admission of attorneys to practice law in Arizona, and processing appeals related to attorney admissions. The clerk’s office keeps the court’s official records and helps schedule matters for decisions and oral arguments. The clerk’s office also distributes the court’s written opinions.
The Arizona Supreme Court is Arizona’s highest court, or “court of last resort.” Most of the Court’s cases are appeals from other courts in Arizona. Attorney or judge discipline cases may also be appealed to the Supreme Court. A few matters, such as death penalty cases, and changes to the courts’ procedural rules, are filed directly with the Supreme Court.
