Current County Goals & Activities:
In April 2026, the Santa Cruz County Baby Steps Team held their 4th Annual Dependency Conference. Child Health And Resilience Mastery (CHARM) gave a presentation on The Power of Positive Childhood Experiences & Resiliency & Experiential Techniques.
Dr. Heidi Pottinger, DRPH, MPH, MA and Tiffany Mihelish, MS/CC, NCC, LPC discussed the research behind positive childhood experiences, and the 7 C’s of resilience to support and strengthen child resilience across developmental and emotional contexts.
They also explored when and how to recognize and implement Emotional Freedom Technique (Tapping) and vagus nerve regulation strategies to support children’s emotional health and resilience. In addition, they engaged in and applied Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Bilateral Stimulation Techniques, and selected appropriate tools to support children’s emotional processing and regulation.
