Participants in PATHWAYS progress through five structured phases aimed at supporting recovery, strengthening parenting, and promoting family reunification. Each phase has specific goals and requirements for advancement, allowing participants to move at their own pace based on individual needs and achievements, with progression dependent on ongoing commitment to recovery and family success.

| Phase 1: |
Welcome & Onboarding (1-2 months)
- Focus: Establishing a foundation for recovery, program orientation, emotional resilience, and early parenting engagement.
- Key Requirements: Complete a substance use assessment, begin treatment, consistent drug testing, parenting time participation, Pathways to Progress activity, regular communication with the coordinator, and court appearance attendance.

Treatment and Personal Goals (2-3 months)
- Focus: Strengthening recovery stability, expanding parenting skills, building support networks.
- Key Requirements: Active treatment engagement, consistent negative drug tests (15 days), connect with support systems, develop a family stability plan, consistent parenting time, and active participation in court and meetings.

Ongoing Treatment and Life Skills (2-3 months)
- Focus: Deepening recovery skills, expanding knowledge of child development, building long-term stability supports.
- Key Requirements: Updated family stability plan, negative drug tests (30 days), continued pro-social activities, parenting time with developmental focus, updated relapse prevention plan, and consistent court and appointment engagement.

Maintaining Independence and Self-Advocacy (2-3 months)
- Focus: Strengthening independence, refining relapse prevention, reinforcing stable parenting, and increased self-advocacy.
- Key Requirements: Continued treatment engagement, negative drug tests (45 days), active participation in pro-social activities, updated family and relapse plans, and leading child-related needs coordination.

Aftercare and Alumni (1-2 months)
- Focus: Preparing for program completion, sustaining recovery and family stability, and giving back to the community.
- Key Requirements: Continued services engagement, finalized family stability plan, participation in pro-social activities, "Pay it Forward" activity, maintaining recovery (testing if required), and submission of a graduation application.
