About the Online Classes

In order to achieve a Tier 1 credential, each candidate must complete two classes. These classes can be completed in any order. Each class requires registration and payment before the candidate may begin the class. Both classes are available on-line and are self-paced, allowing the candidate to work through the material as time permits.

Candidates can find the registration form for on-line classes on the Registration Process page. The Online Classes Registration Request Form can be used to register for one class at a time or to register for both classes at once. The request must be emailed to: [email protected].

Once the application is received, the Arizona Court Interpreter Credentialing Program (ACICP) will hold a seat for the candidate. The ACICP will email the candidate information about how to make payment for the class(es). Candidates' will not be confirmed until after payment is received. Once the ACICP receives the payment, the candidate will receive instructions and a login ID and password through email. Candidates' may then use this to access the class(es) for which you have paid.

Courts Overview Class

The courts overview class provides information about Arizona courts. The intent of this class is to help candidates become familiar with the court structure in Arizona and different types of cases that are handled in court.

Individuals who are employees of a court may have this class waived at their supervisor’s discretion. All contract (freelance) interpreters must take this class.

Ethics Class

The ethics class covers the Interpreter Code of Conduct for the state of Arizona and provides examples of how the code impacts real life situations. This code of ethics applies to all court interpreting events in the state of Arizona as adopted by A.O. 2015-98.

Access to the ethics class also provides reference materials to participants which may be useful in practicing interpreting skills in preparation for the Oral Court Interpreter Examination and English Written Exam.

Next Steps

Once the online classes have been completed, the candidate will receive confirmation of completion from the ACICP. The online classes are only one part of the Tier 1 Credential. Once the requirement for both classes has been satisfied, candidates should go on to take the English WrittenExam and the Oral Proficiency Interview. Passing the English Written Exam and Oral Proficiency Interview will complete the Tier 1 Credential.
