Online Oral Court Interpreter Exam Preparation Seminar


ONLINE SKILL-BUILDING WORKSHOP
for the Oral Court Interpreter Exam

ACICP is offering interpreters who are working on earning their permanent Tier 3 or 4 credential an opportunity to prepare for the Oral Court Interpreter Exam.  

ABOUT THE SEMINAR
This seminar is taught by Agustin Servin de la Mora, a federally certified interpreter who has 28 years of experience in this field. The program emphasizes a practical approach to skill building and self-assessment, as well as provides extended practice activities. The seminar includes an optional mock oral exam to support interpreters through the final part of the credentialing process. All interpreters are welcome, including those of languages other than Spanish!

SEMINAR HIGHTLIGHTS
1)  AIM method for consecutive interpretation
2)  Practical exercises in the 3 modes of interpretation 
3)  Self-evaluation techniques
4)  Overview of the Oral Court Interpreter Exam
5)  Optional individual online mock exam which will allow participants to practice taking the exam and receive a recording of their exam

Students will interact with their teacher and classmates in an online environment via a user-friendly software. An orientation session is offered to students in advance of seminar to make sure they are comfortable accessing the course.

Thursday, September 3, 2020 - Friday, September 4, 2020  (15 hours / 2 days)

OPTIONAL MOCK EXAM: 
This optional mock exam is INCLUDED WITH THE SEMINAR The mock exam provides participants the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the testing process and provides an additional tool to practice before the real exam. Seminar attendees are encouraged to participate. The exam is ADMINISTERED REMOTELY and scheduled during normal business hours about one week after the seminar.

ACICP is committed to providing a quality training experience to all participants of the seminar.  This live 2-day seminar will not be recorded. Participants are strongly encouraged to attend both days as fees cannot be prorated. Interpreters should register below at their earliest opportunity as space is limited and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.

The optional mock exam is included with the seminar fees. The exam is administered remotely, requires only a 1-hour time commitment, and will be scheduled during normal business hours.

Note: ACICP will make every effort to accommodate your preferences, however space is limited and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.

PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS

The seminar is being held remotely using the online video-conferenceing platform Zoom. 

PARTICPANTS WILL NEED:

  • A reliable internet connection
  • A quiet, interruption-free environment
  • Paper and pen/pencil for notetaking
  • A device to record yourself performing in-class exercises (phone, recorder, etc.)
  • Webcam 
  • Microphone or headset with a micophone
  • Ability to hear sound (either through integrated or external speakers)
  • A laptop or desktop computer 

    For the best experience, please use a laptop or desktop computer. Larger-screen tablets (iPad, Surface, etc.) may work as well.
    Smaller mobile devices (smartphones) are not recommended
