Probation Training Calendar


The following provides information about upcoming probation, juvenile detention, and officer safety related trainings as well as officer safety instructor information.  Registration information is emailed to departments each year.  Email questions to [email protected].

Probation Officer Certification Academy:

Arizona Superior Court Probation Officers are required to successfully complete the Probation Officer Certification (POC) Academy within 12 months of hire or promotion to probation officer.

Training Dates:
POC-APO: (Adult caseload)
July 27-August 7, 2026

POC-Dual: (Adult & Juvenile caseloads)
October 19-30, 2026

Items to note:

  1. Registration closes 5-6 weeks prior to start of academy (depending on hotel reservation due dates).
  2. This training takes place at the Judicial Education Center (JEC) in Phoenix.

 

Intensive Probation Supervision:

Arizona Superior Court Probation and Surveillance Officers are required to complete the following IPS training within 12 months of being assigned an IPS caseload.

AIPS/JIPS Webinar Dates:
September 25, 2026

Items to note:

  1. Officers assigned to an IPS caseload are required to complete this training within 12 months.
  2. Registration closes 2 weeks prior.

 

Surveillance Officer Academy:

The Surveillance Officer Academy is designed for new Arizona Superior Court Surveillance Officers (existing surveillance officers are also welcome to attend).  While it is not required, it would be beneficial for them to complete this within their first year of employment.  In addition, the officers will be required to complete some CBTs prior to attending the academy.  The CBT information will be provided by email 2-3 weeks prior to the start of the academy.

  2. This training takes place at the Judicial Education Center (JEC) in Phoenix.

 

Faculty Skills Development:

Faculty Skills Development (FSD) is a 2-day training that provides participants with the opportunity to build presentation skills by learning different presentation methods, how to create an effective learning environment, tips for conducting learning activities, and tips for working with a co-facilitator. The program culminates with each participant delivering a fifteen-minute presentation, including an activity, on the final day of training.

Items to note:

  1. This training is a prerequisite to most of the following Train the Trainer programs.
  2. Registration closes 4-6 weeks prior to start date (depending on hotel room block deadline noted in registration).
  3. This training takes place at the Judicial Education Center (JEC) in Phoenix.
  4. Departments are responsible for travel arrangements and cost (including hotel reservations).

 

Motivational Interviewing Train the Trainer:

This training provides certification to teach this curriculum for AOC programs as well as providing training and/or refreshers in departments.

Training Date:
May 18-20, 2026 - Closed

Items to note:

  1. Prerequisite: Must complete the AOC 2-day Motivational Interviewing training (during the POC Academy or taught within the department by AOC certified trainer).
  2. Prerequisite: Must successfully complete AOC Faculty Skills Development.
  3. This training takes place at the Judicial Education Center (JEC) in Phoenix.
  4. Departments are responsible for meal and mileage per diems.

 

Juvenile Detention Information

 

Juvenile Detention Orientation:

New juvenile detention officers are required to complete the following 5 Computer Based Training (CBT) modules within 12 months of hire. 

CBTs are accessed through TraCorp, which will create a transcript of completed trainings for COJET/compliance reporting.

**CBTs are only available to those already hired as an Arizona Superior Court juvenile detention or transport officer.**

 

Juvenile Detention Officer Academy:

New juvenile detention officers are required to complete the JDO Academy within 12 months of hire.

  2. This training takes place at the Judicial Education Center (JEC) in Phoenix.

 

Behavior Management Train the Trainer:

This training provides certification to teach this curriculum for AOC programs as well as providing training and/or refreshers in departments.

  1. Prerequisite: Must successfully complete AOC Faculty Skills Development.
  2. Prerequisite: Must complete your department's Behavior Management training as having knowledge on this curriculum and your department's policies on this topic prior to attending the Train the Trainer class is imperative.
  3. Registration closes 5-6 weeks prior to state of academy (depending on hotel reservation due dates).
  4. This training takes place at the Judicial Education Center (JEC) in Phoenix.

 

PREA Train the Trainer:

This training provides certification to teach this curriculum for AOC programs as well as providing training and/or refreshers in departments.

  1. Prerequisite: Must successfully complete AOC Faculty Skills Development.
  2. Prerequisite: Must complete your department's PREA training as having knowledge on this curriculum and your department's policies on this topic prior to attending the Train the Trainer class is imperative.
  3. Registration closes 5-6 weeks prior to state of academy (depending on hotel reservation due dates).
  4. This training takes place at the Judicial Education Center (JEC) in Phoenix.

 

Suicide Prevention and Intervention Train the Trainer:

This training provides certification to teach this curriculum for AOC programs as well as providing training and/or refreshers in departments.

Items to note:

  1. Prerequisite: Must successfully complete AOC Faculty Skills Development.
  2. Prerequisite: Must complete your department's Suicide Prevention training as having knowledge on this curriculum and your department's policies on this topic prior to attending the Train the Trainer class is imperative.
  3. Registration closes 5-6 weeks prior to state of academy (depending on hotel reservation due dates).
  4. This training takes place at the Judicial Education Center (JEC) in Phoenix.

 

Officer Safety Information

 

Officer Safety Orientation:

Arizona Superior Court officers are required to complete the following 4 Computer Based Training (CBT) modules within 30 days of hire/promotion to a probation officer or surveillance officer position.  This CBT requirement replaces the previous 8-hour live training requirement as per Administrative Order 2019-149

CBTs are accessed through TraCorp, which will create a transcript of completed trainings for COJET/compliance reporting.

  3. 03 Officer Safety Orientation – Use of Force
  4. 04 Officer Safety Orientation - Verbal De-escalation

**CBTs are only available to those already hired as an Arizona Superior Court Probation/Surveillance Officer.**

 

Defensive Tactics Academy:

Arizona Superior Court officers are required to complete the DT Academy within 120 days of hire/promotion to a probation officer or surveillance officer position.

Defensive Tactics Train the Trainer:

This training provides certification to teach this curriculum for AOC programs as well as providing training and/or refreshers in departments.

Items to note:

  1. Officers are required to successfully complete the 2-day assessment before attending the 5-day portion of the training (train the trainer)/
  2. Registration instructions are emailed to Safety Training Coordinators each year. 
  3. Registration closes 5-6 weeks prior to start date of Assessment (depending on hotel reservation due dates).
  4. Training takes place at the Judicial Education Center (JEC) in Phoenix.

**Seating is restricted to Arizona Superior Court Probation and Surveillance Officers.**

 

Firearms Academy:

Arizona Superior Court probation and surveillance officers are required to complete this training prior to being armed.

Items to note:

  1. Registration Requirements: Officers must successfully complete the DT Academy prior to attending the Firearms Academy and have approval as an armed officer from their chief/director.
  2.  Registration closes 5-6 weeks prior to academy start date (depending on hotel reservation due dates).
  3. Dates will be added as ranges and hotel accommodations are confirmed.

**Seating is restricted to Arizona Superior Court Probation and Surveillance Officers.**

 

Firearms Train the Trainer:

This training provides certification to teach this curriculum for AOC programs as well as providing training and/or refreshers in departments.

  1. Officers are required to successfully complete the 2-day assessment before attending the 5-day portion of the training (train the trainer)/

Officer Safety Instructor Information

 

Biannual Instructor Reports:

Due each June and December 
Complete the Biannual Report Form and email it to OSBiannualReports.

 

CPR/First Aid Certification:

Email copy of updated/new CPR and First Aid certification cards (must show certification and expiration dates) to OSBiannualReports.
